Our Story

Born from a simple calling to feed people and care well for them.

Our organization and volunteers have been providing for the community as an unofficial group for over 15 years. We made it official and founded Feeding the Flock SD in 2016 with a simple mission: to feed the hungry, honor the dignity of every person served, and show up for neighbors in times of need. Today, that mission takes shape through organized food distributions, senior support, emergency assistance, school partnerships, and volunteer service.

Our work is shaped by compassion and a faith-based desire to serve. Volunteers help receive food from the San Diego Food Bank, sort it into food boxes with items like proteins, vegetables, fruit, and canned goods, and serve those boxes through a welcoming drive-through pickup.

Our Mission

Feeding the Flock SD exists to relieve hunger, restore dignity, and care for people through organized food distributions, pantry support, emergency assistance, school partnerships, and compassionate outreach.

  • Serve people with dignity, compassion, and respect
  • Provide practical food support where it is needed most
  • Strengthen community through compassion, service, and care
Programs

Programs built around practical help and compassionate service.

Feeding the Flock SD serves through practical, volunteer-led efforts that help food reach people in a way that is organized, accessible, and respectful.

Drive-Through Food Distributions

Feeding the Flock SD hosts drive-through food distributions designed to make support convenient, respectful, and easy to access. Families remain in their cars while volunteers load food boxes directly into their trunks.

  • Food boxes may include proteins, vegetables, fruit, canned goods, and staple items
  • Neighbors can pick up for others when needed, helping food reach more households
  • Distribution days are built around dignity, kindness, and practical care

Santee Senior Pantry

The Santee Senior Pantry gives older adults a welcoming, dignified way to access nutritious food. Seniors can choose grocery items that fit their needs, rather than receiving only a pre-packed box.

  • Set up like a small, friendly grocery-style pantry
  • Volunteers help with questions, carrying items, and practical support
  • Delivery may be available for housebound seniors when arranged

Emergency Pantry

Feeding the Flock SD helps provide emergency food assistance through a pantry at the La Mesa Veterans' Club for neighbors facing urgent or unexpected needs.

  • Offers support when food needs cannot wait for a regular distribution
  • Helps people facing difficult or sudden circumstances
  • Provides a local point of care in partnership with the La Mesa Veterans' Club

Homeless Outreach

Our homeless outreach provides practical care for people experiencing homelessness, including food, basic supplies, and compassionate connection.

  • May include meals, hygiene supplies, clean socks, and other essentials
  • Uses food and basic care as a bridge to trust and conversation
  • Helps connect people with partner resources when possible

School Partnerships

Feeding the Flock SD partners with a local school to help provide food support for students and families who may need extra help.

  • Supports children and families through trusted school connections
  • Helps food reach students in a familiar community setting
  • Extends care through practical, relationship-based support

Mexico Outreach

Feeding the Flock SD also supports missionary and charity work in Mexico, extending care through food assistance, children’s programs, and outreach.

  • Reflects the organization’s faith-based desire to serve
  • Supports care beyond local county lines
  • Connects local generosity with cross-border outreach
